Nikon COOLSHOT 20i GIII Laser Rangefinder

The Nikon COOLSHOT 20i GIII Laser Rangefinder is a compact and lightweight golf distance-measuring device designed to help golfers quickly determine distances on the course. Nikon specifies a measurement range of 5–730 metres or 6–800 yards, making it suitable for measuring distances to flags and other targets across a wide range of golf situations. Nikon Coolshot 20i GIII Laser Rangefinder

With a weight of approximately 130 grams excluding the battery, the rangefinder is designed for convenient portability during a round. Its compact body measures approximately 91 × 73 × 37mm, allowing it to fit easily into a golf bag or pocket.

The device combines a 6x monocular with Nikon’s distance-measuring technology. Its First Target Priority algorithm is designed to display the distance to the closest target when multiple objects overlap, which can be useful when attempting to measure a flagstick with trees or other objects behind it.

The rangefinder displays measurements in 1-metre or 1-yard increments. Nikon specifies accuracy of ±1m/yd for measurements below 100m/yd and ±2m/yd at 100m/yd and beyond, under its measurement conditions. Actual performance can vary depending on the target, surface characteristics and weather.

ID Technology for Sloping Courses

One of the useful features for golfers is Nikon’s ID (Incline/Decline) Technology. This function displays a guide distance that takes the uphill or downhill angle into consideration, helping golfers understand how the slope affects the distance they need to play.

Golfers should always check the rules of the particular competition before using slope-related features during tournament play, as local rules can determine whether such functions are permitted.

LOCKED ON QUAKE Technology

Nikon’s LOCKED ON QUAKE Technology provides tactile confirmation when the device identifies the closest target. A brief vibration indicates that the distance to the target has been measured. This can help provide confirmation without requiring the golfer to rely solely on the display.

The device supports both single and continuous measurement. Continuous measurement can operate for approximately eight seconds when the power button is held down, while unsuccessful single measurements can automatically continue for up to approximately four seconds.

6x Optical Viewfinder

The 6x monocular uses multilayer-coated optics designed to provide a bright and clear view of the target. A 16.7mm eye-relief specification also makes the viewfinder suitable for users who wear glasses.

The combination of magnification and compact construction provides a practical balance for golfers who want a portable rangefinder without carrying a larger device.

Rainproof Golf Rangefinder

The rangefinder features a rainproof construction equivalent to JIS/IEC protection class 4 (IPX4) under Nikon’s testing conditions. Nikon notes that raindrops can affect the ability to measure the target correctly, so weather conditions should still be considered when using the device.

It is specified for operation from -10°C to +50°C, providing a broad temperature range for outdoor use.

Battery and Portable Design

The device uses one CR2 lithium battery and includes an automatic power shut-off function after approximately eight seconds without operation.

Its compact dimensions and approximately 130g weight make it convenient to carry throughout a golf round. The design is particularly suited to golfers who want quick access to distance information without adding significant weight to their equipment.
